Support Group Testimonials

Shortly after my sister, Jackie, and I became caregivers for our parents, Jackie realized that if we were to survive with our sanity intact, then we needed to join a support group. She found out about the group at Park Hill Baptist Church, and we began to attend the monthly meetings. What a warm welcome we received!

I guess I thought of a support group primarily as a group of people commiserating about their common troubles, and I was right about that. But I wasn't quite prepared for the value of talking things out with people who truly understand your emotions and innermost feelings, people who help you to realize that those feelings are not unique -- not wrong, people who know just the right words of encouragement and support. Not only were Jackie and I now surrounded by people familiar with a wealth of resources, we also became privy to tips and insights that only someone who has navigated through the maze of rules, regulations, and restrictions could provide. That we received all these benefits in a Christian environment reinforces our faith in God, who provides our every need.

The Park Hill Support Group is as important to Jackie and me as the doctors, therapists, home health aides, insurance company representatives, and others who are directly involved in giving or deciding our parents' care. We thank God for C.J. Shane, Rev. Bob Harper, and all the members of our support group.
