Park Hill Baptist Church was born on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947. God has blessed this fellowship with a rich heritage as it sits looking toward its brightest days in the years ahead. Park Hill Baptist has been built on a solid foundation of powerfully proclaiming God's Word of Hope to the people of Central Arkansas and being integrally involved in world-wide mission enterprises.

First Building – "Prayer Room"There was an influx of people to the Park Hill community in North Little Rock following the end of World War II, with approximately 5,000 residents in the area by 1947. The development of the Lakewood subdivision was beginning and new families were regularly moving in to these suburbs.

Many of the residents were Baptists who were interested in constituting a Baptist church in their neighborhood. Contact was made with the SBC Home Mission Board seeking help in establishing a church. The Rev.Taylor Stanfill, Superintendent of City Missions in the area and a representative of the Home Mission Board, assisted in the first organizational meeting which met in a private home on March 25, 1947. A second meeting was held on April 1, 1947, and on Easter Sunday of that year at Park Hill Elementary School this great church came into existence. The church called Rev. Stanfill as its first pastor with a total of 47 charter members. The School Board continued to rent facilities to the church for $40.00 per month until September 12, 1948.

The first permanent building was constructed in 1948. By 1950 the need for more space was evident, and a house adjacent to the property was purchased and converted to nursery, beginner, and primary space.

Building I – 1955The men of the church began a weekly prayer meeting upon the resignation of Rev. Stanfill in July 1951, to pray that the right pastor might be found. Dr. Rheubin L. South was called as pastor in 1952 and served until 1975. The membership of Park Hill Baptist grew, additional buildings were constructed, and more staff members were added over the years. The weekly men's prayer meeting still continues to this day.

Dr. S. Cary Heard was called as pastor in 1975 and concluded his pastorate after 30 years at Park Hill on December 31, 2005. He is only the third pastor to lead the church in its 58 year history. The membership, budget, and church plant have grown substantially during his tenure. Houses, vacant lots, and commercial properties adjacent to the church have been purchased for future parking and building expansions. The church owns 16.37 acres bordered by Arkansas 107/John F. Kennedy Boulevard on the west, Cedar Street on the east, "E" Avenue on the north, and "B" Avenue on the south.

World-wide mission endeavors have been at the heart of the church from its beginning. Leadership has been provided for developing churches in Central Arkansas, across the nation, and around the world. Several members of Park Hill are serving or have served on the international mission field. The church operates two missionary houses providing residences for missionaries on stateside assignment.

From the smallest child to the largest global strategy, Park Hill Baptist Church is a church poised for growth with its eyes focused on Jesus Christ, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Our vision is to lead people into an ever-deepening relationship with the Lord, building strong, Christ-centered families, and impacting the entire world with the life-changing message of Jesus.

This great church has a rich heritage and an even brighter hope for tomorrow. We invite you to catch the vision of changing lives and changing the world with us - the family of Believers called Park Hill Baptist Church.
